Our client is looking for experienced Dispatchers to support their Electrical Utility Trouble/Emergent Work group in Detroit, MI, in a long term contract role.

Job Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for the following: 

  • Analyzes trouble and scheduled maintenance work and determine schedule or dispatch work or trouble crews as appropriate. 

  • Works as a team member with CCS/DSS, ICS, PDO Area Leaders, and Lines Analysts to determine field personnel assignments (dispatch) and adjusts assignments to meet current work needs (during routine, storm, or emergency situations). 

  • Receives distribution trouble calls from company personnel. 

  • Determines location of trouble, analyze cause, advise on cost of corrective measures or routes trouble report to appropriate company unit for action. 

  • Trains others using on-the-job-training (OJT) methods. 

  • Adheres to productivity measures and follows work unit policy. 

  • Supports goals, measures, targets, budgets, and adheres to company policy. 

  • Builds customer loyalty by providing superior service to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of all internal and external customers.


This long term contract position is currently budgeted for 12 months (possibility of extension or direct hire) and offers a pay rate of $20/hour.  


Required Qualifications :



  • 3 years prior job-related experience in roles such as operating engineer, electric control room operator, lineman, UG splicer, SC Dispatcher, FCC Dispatcher, Primary Callback Coordinator, police an fire dispatcher, power plant electrician, power plant operator, substation operator, or air traffic controller or modeling the as operated state if the electrical system or similar operating experience with life critical operating tasks. 

  • Skilled trade candidates with electrical emphasis, or roles with similar operating experience with life critical operating tasks such as switching and tagging on an electrical system. The supervisor/supervision of any of the roles or tasks above will be considered as job relevant operating experience.

  •  Familiarity with OSHA Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures is preferred but not required.


  • Advanced knowledge of CRT/keyboard usage, data entry, telephone skills, and timekeeping/pay practices.

  • Working knowledge of complaint resolution and customer service. Additionally this job requires an advanced knowledge of service restoration.

  • Advanced knowledge of dispatching.

  • Working knowledge of blueprints/drawings/schematics and transmission/distribution.

  • High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
