Job Description :

The Product Development Engineer – Lighting Integration is responsible for the planning, development and execution of advanced projects in pursuit of the integration of lighting and other electronic elements into exterior components and modules. The Product Development Engineer’s responsibilities are described as follows:



             Manages research, design and development of lighting and electronic integration for new or existing exteriors products in compliance with automotive standards and customer specifications.

             Coordinates the development of analog, digital circuitry, power electronics and embedded hardware & software for exterior systems integrated electronic components and solutions.

             Acts as technical liaison supporting all exterior product lines with cross-functional departments, suppliers and customers with respect to lighting product development, validation, and manufacturing.

             Exercises functional authority for the planning, organization, budget, integration and completion of R&D projects within the company.

             Supports Sales Team with initial business case development on new products where a manufacturing division has not yet been fully determined or engaged.

             Supports development of company lighting integration product strategy aligned with Global needs.

             Responsible to contribute to the Product and Technology Roadmaps related to company lighting integration to ensure technology needs meet Business Plan objectives.

             Works closely with corporate and divisional management and business personnel to identify the need for and marketability of new products, processes and technology.

             Reviews product designs to ensure compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements and specifications.

             Leads initiatives for continuous product improvement and growth of innovation development capabilities.

             Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers.

             Works closely with design group to develop future concepts for lighting integration.

Required Qualifications :

Education/Special Knowledge/Skills – Bachelor’s Degree in technical engineering field preferably Electrical Engineering. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Experience - Minimum of 5 years of automotive engineering, manufacturing, and/or product development experience. Must have detailed electronic and lighting component experience. Knowledge of electronic manufacturing, quality and technical standards along with:

             Strong organizational, task management and leadership skills are required to prioritize, coordinate projects, manage conflicting needs, and successfully complete multiple tasks.

             Proven ability to champion innovative opportunities in order to expand the organization’s current and future business.

             Above average communication skills (written and verbal).

             Proficient with the use of electronic testing equipment. Hands-on electronic system ability.

             Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database software applications.

             Experience in injection molding processes and technology preferred.

             Understanding of automotive polymer materials preferred.

Skills – Technical presentation and time/resource planning.  Basic financial aptitude required.

Physical Demands/Work Environment - Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require local, domestic and international travel.
