Job Description :


Our client, a major chemical manufacturer, is looking for a contract Instrument / Control Technician for their site in Wyandotte, MI. 


This is a long term contract position.


**Our client is ONLY interested in candidates currently in the Metro Detroit Area. Relocation will NOT be provided. **



  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of the Instrument and Electrical equipment encompassing the plant 480 volt switch-gear installations, electrical and pneumatic system, PLC controllers and AC and DC drive controls. 

  • Must have strong trouble shooting skill and be able to do modifications to PLC programs which include Allen Bradley, Modicon 984, Siemens Step 7, PCS 7 and TIA Portal. 

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair Servo systems. 

  • Must be able to install programs on Windows and configure Microsoft Windows. 

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair industrial control networks, including Modbus Plus, RS 232, Asi bus, Profibus, Profienet, Ether Net IP, Device Net and Modbus TCP. 

  • Must be able to calibrate and configure Level transmitters, Flow transmitters, Temperature controllers, HMI screens, Scales, Pressure Transmitters, etc.

  • Interpret electrical schematics, blue prints and computer logic to trouble shoot production problems and resolve them. 

  • Perform process control, sensing and monitoring system calibrations and record keeping. 

  • Work with other team members, engineers and production personnel to complete job task, breakdowns or machine redesigns to improve/resolve production needs. 

  • Support, maintain and improve the plant MPI programs to maintain equipment reliability. 

  • Responsible for requisitioning replacement parts from plant inventory as well as obtaining outside sources to replace, upgrade or implement new equipment designs. 

  • Support production operations during the second and third shift as well as weekend coverage. 

  • Actively participate in plant safety meetings and procedures for lock-out, line breaking, safe work, and hot work. Insure all contractors adhere to safety standards. 

Schedule: Position will work 3 months on 2nd shift (3 pm to 11 pm) then 6 months on 1st shift (7 am - 3:30 pm), On Call every 3rd weekend

Overtime is required if there is a break down of equipment.


Required Qualifications :



  • Two (2) year Associates Degree in a related Instrumentation, Electronics or Control field. 

  • Academic degree in related technology area to a maximum of 4 years. 

  • Related work experience in reading loop sheets, electrical interconnect drawings, ladder logic drawings, equipment and process instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and knowledge of prevailing electrical codes. 

  • 4 - 8 years experience in the field supporting a manufacturing environment. 

  • Fanuc and ABB robotics experience is a plus.
